BK Singhal, known in India as the father of the Internet, has passed away.  In 1995 he was the key person behind the provision of Internet services in the country. His goal was to launch the Internet domestically on Independence Day  1995. The experiment started 45 days ago, but the launch failed. Being the CEO of VSNL, his media-facing confession made headlines.

Singhal implemented the new system without being deterred by the setbacks. The Chinese minister also visited to view  India's achievements. In 1991, Singhal, who attended IIT Kharakhpur, resigned from a well-paying position in London and relocated to India to assume the position of VSNL head. He was also instrumental in revealing allegations of 2G spectrum fraud.
